15 ways to use Sports Tapes

Sports tapes are a material that is mainly used in sports, with the main function of immobilizing and stabilizing muscles. However, tapes can also be used for support and elevation of the breasts, manual work, to correct the commonly called “flapping ears” and, for those who believe, to cover the navel avoiding capturing negative energies.

1st way to use: Immobilization of goalkeeper's fingers.

View the videos that demonstrate the placement on the fingers for protection of goalkeepers. Video 1 and video 2 .

2nd way of using: Two ways of stabilizing the fingers for Jiu-Jitzo.

3rd way to use: Stabilizing fingers for volleyball.

4th way to use: Stabilizing fingers for climbing.

5th way to use: Fix a muscle that we want to immobilize. Kinesiotapes have elasticity and allow mobility, while tapes immobilize muscle movement.

6th way to use: Immobilization / stabilization of the pulse. See here the videos in which two of the techniques used are shown.

Video 1 - stabilization of the wrist to limit the hyperextension of the wrist, for example for futsal goalkeeper.

Video 2 - Immobilization of the wrist, where there is greater movement limitation. In this video the professional uses the pre-tape before applying the tapes.

7th way to use: knee immobilization / stabilization

8th way to use: Ankle immobilization / stabilization. Watch the explanatory videos. Video 1 and Video 2

Sprain the wrist or ankle or arch of the feet. The tape can be used preventively to avoid sprain, or if the sprain is installed, it allows immobilization to allow recovery.

sprain is an injury to the ligaments of a joint without displacement of the joint surfaces. In the event of a sprain, the normal range of action of a joint is exceeded with the effect of the impact and causes distortion damage to the capsule-ligament apparatus.

Ligaments are tissues of elastic structure, which connect the bones and are found in the joints.

We distinguish benign sprains (there is no rupture of ligaments) from severe sprains (there is rupture of ligaments).

The ankle is the region of the body most affected by sprains. Most ankle sprains involve ligament injuries to the outer portion of the ankle.

9th way to use: Prevention of elbow hyperextension

10th way to use: Immobilization in case of fractures, for example of fingers.

11th way to use: Tapes can be used as an adhesive in wound dressings, in a situation of unsightness, to replace the adhesive or the "mefix".

12th way to use: Handicrafts. The tape is made of white adherent fabric, so it can be applied in several ways. Enough is having imagination!

13th way to use: Cover the navel of negative energies.

Perhaps a less conventional way of using tapes is for more spiritual purposes. For those who believe in Reiki, the third chakra known as the Solar Plexus, is located in the navel area and is related to emotions, strength and learning. This chakra can capture energy from the environment and people around it.

People who feel a lot of negative energy around them, whether at work or at home, with intrigues or arguments, can plug the navel and thereby interrupt the flow of these negative energies. For this purpose, tape can be used.

14th way to use: Used on babies to correct protruding ears.

15th way to use: Push-up effect or support of the breasts, applying the tape under the breasts.

Method 1: Create volume using tapes

1- Cut four segments of tape. All segments should be slightly smaller than the width of the chest. Perhaps only three segments are used, but it is advisable to cut four, just in case.

2 - Place the first segment. Start with the first piece of tape on the bottom outside of the left breast. Use your right hand to place this segment. Put it in the middle. Make sure it is glued securely when using both hands to rub it.

3 - Glue the tape across. Hold the end of the ribbon attached to the body with your left hand. Pull the tape as far as you can and hold it with your right hand. Release the left hand. Use your left hand to press the breast against the left breast. Place the remaining segment under the right breast to correct it.

4 - With the second segment follow the same procedure , but this time start on the right side. The lower half of the second segment should overlap with the first, and the upper half, above it. Press one breast against the other even more, position the tape. This helps to lift your breasts, increasing their contour.

5 - Use the third segment to better secure the other two pieces. Start on the left side of the tape already glued, fix 1.30 cm or ½ inch on the skin. Pull across to the right side. If the third portion of tape does not cover the first two end to end, reinforce with the fourth segment.

6 - Place a thin strip of tape in the center. To better outline the breast contour, cut a small piece of tape, no larger than 5 cm. With the forefinger and thumb of one hand, you should squeeze the midpoint of the bundle of all the taped tapes (under the breasts, in the space between them), and with the other hand, wrap this small piece of tape around the compressed , so that it becomes narrower than the rest.

Method 2: Use of tapes to lift or reduce the movement of the breasts

1 - Cut six segments approximately the width of the trunk Four segments for the base, supported by two segments that act as handles. In the end, a kind of bra is built, which supports the breasts when using a piece that leaves the back exposed. In addition, it is lower in the trunk compared to the previous method, being indicated for pieces with larger necklines.

2 - Glue the first piece of tape. Paste the tip in the lower corner of the left chest, just above the base of the ribs. Press tightly against the skin with both hands. Hold this tip firmly with your left hand.

3 - Bring the tape to the other side of the chest. As soon as the first end is glued, use your left hand to push the right chest against the left. When the breasts have the desired volume, take the other end of the tape to the right side.

4 - Place the second tape segment on the first. This time, hold the tip under your right chest. Still holding the breasts close to each other and with the desired volume, paste this piece of tape just below the first. The tape should be tight to keep the breasts in the desired position.

5 - Use the tape to support the breasts, with the effect of straps The ends of the straps do not need to go over the shoulders, but can end just below the collarbones. Attach a piece of tape below the left breast. Then pull the breast upwards, fixing the other end to the collarbone. Do the same on the right side. The straps serve to support the breasts and make them look bigger.

6 - Reinforce the entire structure with the other tape strips. Use the other segments that were separated to give more support to the breasts: reinforce the straps, close any cracks between the parts and tighten the convexity of the breasts more firmly.

Other suggestions : To raise or reduce movement in an emergency if you do not have a bra, or a solution to better secure the silicone bras. Here are three more suggestions:

1- Breast lift cut the pieces in the shape of breast lift tape and apply over the breast.

2- Make a bra: You can use this technique for a backless dress, if you stick the ends of the ribbons on the side on the body.

3- Attaching a silicone bra or other: To make the contours of your breasts more perfect, you can use silicone padding or cut an old bra or buy foam cups at sewing stores.

Method 3: Use tapes to reduce the volume of the chest (flattening effect).

This technique basically allows you to tie or secure the chest. Dancers, for example, use it to ensure that there is no movement during performances. However, it can be used by women who want to reduce or flatten the breast volume.

Two ways:

1- Compress the breasts: Keep them separate and fix them with tapes, to avoid that they look like a breast in the middle.

2 - Use straps to pull each breast to the side. It is not recommended to use this technique very often or to leave it for a long period of time.

Method 4: How to remove the tapes?

1 - Dip the tape in warm water. Taking a hot bath or getting into a tub of warm water will help to reduce the adhesion of the tapes. The bathtub can be replaced with a damp towel. To do this, soak the towel in warm water and, lying on your back, place it on the tapes. It should facilitate the removal process.

2 - Remove the tapes slowly. It is necessary to remove the adhesive from the body slowly and carefully. Even though sports tapes are designed for human skin, it is important to pull carefully, so as not to damage the skin, especially the most sensitive skin. Pull the tape with one hand and use the other to support the skin, taking care not to stretch it too much.

3 - Use baby oil or sweet almond oil . If the removal is too complicated, apply oil to the skin, which softens the connection between the glue and the skin. Soak a cotton ball in the oil and spread it in the space between the skin and the tape as it is removed.

Tips and recommendations when placing tapes

  • Having someone to help you can make things easier.
  • Take care not to leave gaps between the ribbons, which can create irregularities in the silhouette of the breasts.
  • Do not place the tape over the nipples to avoid crippling them at the time of removal;
  • Do not place the tape over the lacerated, bruised or sunburned skin.
  • If you're thinking of using these techniques for a special occasion, test it out before the day to make sure it works.
  • Do not wrap the tape around the entire rib cage, as this may restrict breathing if it is too tight.
  • How you attach your breasts will depend on what you wear. If it is low-cut (goes below the breasts), the breasts must be supported separately. To create support, hold the breasts while gluing the tape, leaning forward can also help. Start the collar of the ribbon under the chest and pull up to create elevation.

Cautions / contraindications when using tapes:

Damaged skin: It should not be applied to cracked, damaged or sunburned skin.

Allergy test To test for a possible allergic reaction to the patch, try a smaller area first. The inner part of the arm is a good place to test. It is not hairy so it does not hurt as much when the tape is peeled off.

Adhesion: Moisturizers or powder make it difficult for the tape to stick to the skin.

Sweat: Tapes are more likely to take off in places where you sweat a lot. If possible, avoid using them in areas where you sweat a lot.

Alcohol: Before gluing the tape to the skin, you can clean and dry it. Cleaning with alcohol will help to remove oils and dirt.

To remove the tapes: A hot bath or soak in water if you have trouble removing it.

If, after removing the tape, a sticky residue remains on the skin, remove it by gently rubbing the area with a little cotton soaked in baby oil. Solvents like nail polish remover also work, but they are not so smooth on the skin.
