How does acupuncture work?

The stimulated muscle and sensory neurons are said to send a message to the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord), causing the release of endorphins (naturally produced analgesics) and other neurotransmitters, helping to block the transmission of the pain message to the brain.

What happens during acupuncture treatment?
The first step in starting treatment with acupuncture is to perform an analysis of the patient's condition. The acupuncturist will examine the reactive areas in you to determine the points to be used.

Once this is done, the technique will begin to be applied using acupuncture needles that are sterile, prepackaged, disposable and have the thickness of a hair. The needles will be inserted at various depths, from a fraction of a centimeter to up to 5 cm.

After insertion and stimulation of the needles, wait up to 20 minutes to remove them.

Needles can usually be inserted at depths ranging from 0.15 cm to 7.0 cm.

Does acupuncture interfere with other treatments?
