What is the Medela SpecialNeeds teat?
The SpecialNeeds Teat offers you a way to feed your baby breast milk if he is physically unable to drink from your breast or a bottle.

If your baby has a condition that makes breastfeeding difficult, such as a cleft lip and palate, or a disability, or neurological condition, Medela's SpecialNeeds Teat may be the solution. These conditions may mean that your baby cannot create a vacuum to drink your breast milk. The SpecialNeeds Teat allows him to use light compression instead.

Feeding babies with special needs
The SpecialNeeds teat is designed to allow baby to use compression when unable to create a vacuum to extract liquid. The one-way valve prevents air from entering the teat. The caregiver can easily control the milk flow thanks to the slit valve mechanism.

Instead of a standard teat, Medela's SpecialNeeds Teat has a longer, thinner, ultra-soft silicone teat. At the end, it has a valve with a groove that opens when the baby makes the slightest compression to feed and closes when he takes a break, so that he is not suffocated with his expressed milk.
