Argan Oil

In this category you will find the selection of Mipmed products that have argan oil as one of their main raw materials.

Argan oil, or Morrocan oil, is an extract taken from the nuts of the Argania spinosa plant, found only in Morocco.

Moroccans have been using argan oil for their hair for centuries, and recently this technique has started to be widely used in cosmetics. This plant has a very restricted habitat in the world, so oil is extremely rare.

Oil is produced manually. It is pulled out of the nuts and then dried in the sun. To open the dried walnuts, stones are used, and the seeds are removed, which are roasted and the oil is removed.

Where can argan oil be used?
Initially it was indicated for the hair. Its effectiveness for the treatment of the skin has also been recently discovered.

Hair

Argan oil helps with problems such as frizz and stray hair control. The hair usually has a negative electrical charge due to the presence of keratin, the main cause of the hairs getting frizzy. Vegetable oils encamp the strands, causing the negative charge to slide towards the ends, reducing friction and leaving the strands with a healthy and malleable appearance.

It's a natural treatment. Antioxidants and vitamins improve the elasticity of the strands, give a luminous shine and help to renew hair against damage caused by heat, wind, oxidation, brushing and chemicals. Argan is indicated in shampoos for afro or dry hair, and against hair strain.

Argan oil is 80% unsaturated fat and has three times more vitamin E than any other vegetable oil, which helps to better nourish dry and brittle hair, reducing split ends and protecting it from thermal damage.

Among the nutrients in argan oil, we find tocopherol, phenolic acid, carotenes and essential fatty acids.

Argan oil is suitable for dyed hair, it helps maintain the hair color for longer and is able to protect the strands against damage caused by dyes and enhance shine and softness.

Despite being moisturizing, it is indicated for oily hair, as it is quickly absorbed and does not leave residues that favor oiliness, as long as it is not used in large quantities, as this can obstruct the hair bulb.

Skin

Argan oil, despite being famous for its use in hair, skin care properties have been discovered.

Its hydration allows the skin to better absorb nutrients.

It has anti-aging effects (due to antioxidant properties such as saponins and vitamin E), anti-inflammatory and healing properties.

Can be used to treat cracked nipples during breastfeeding.

Argan oil contains squalene - an emollient and humectant agent in cosmetic formulations. O squalene guarantees a high protection rate for the skin against free radicals, an antioxidant effect and, in this way, helps to prevent skin aging. Prevents skin cancer.

How to use argan oil?
Recommendations for using argan oil vary according to its purpose.

Hair

Argan oil can be used in several ways:

  • pure at the ends of the hair
  • as a component in shampoo
  • conditioners
  • oils without water
  • masks
  • It is often associated with hair dyes, in salons, to better protect the hair. It is applied before coloring, using approximately 10 to 15 milliliters, massaging the hair.

When using it neat, the ideal is to apply it only to the ends of the hair, applying it either as a repairer or leaving it to act on the hair for about 15 minutes. If the choice is for products that contain the oil in its component, the ideal is to choose items that have at least 10% concentration of argan oil.

It is not advisable to always use argan oil, as in excess it can leave the hair looking oily. The ideal is to use the hair every two or three and always after bathing.

The amount applied depends on the length of the threads. If you are using pure argan oil, a few drops will do.

Skin

Argan oil can also be used directly on the skin and just a few drops, three to five, are enough to moisturize.

It is also potent when used in anti-aging creams or with other beauty functions as it works as a facilitator for the properties of these products to penetrate the skin. Absorption is usually very quick and it can be applied to any part of the body. But unlike hair care products, in skin cosmetics its concentration should vary between 2% and 10% - an amount that varies according to the type of skin.

It is ideal to use pure argan oil only every two to three days, whereas creams containing argan oil can be used daily.

Care after using argan oil

Avoid excessive exposure of the hair strands to the sun, avoid humidity, do not use products that remove the shine from the strands such as mousses and sprays. After a treatment with argan oil, the strands are silky and shiny.

If you have used pure oil on your hair, the ideal is not to use a hair straightener or dryer, as this can burn your hair and damage it. Use only argan oil to protect the strands, mixed in a finishing cream, but after the board or dryer. You can apply pure oil to repair the damage caused to the wires.

Argan oil is not harmful to the skin.

It has no protection factor, so it is important to continue with daily sun protection  and wash your face daily with appropriate soap so as not to clog your skin pores.

Contraindications
Pure oil  in the hair should be avoided by people with very oily hair. It can leave hair heavy and look more oily, with less volume. In this case, it is recommended to use it combined with shampoos, conditioners or masks, just a few drops, in small amounts.

People who have very oily skin should moderate the use of large amounts of argan oil, especially on oily or acne-prone skin, as too much of it can clog the pores.

Results
The results of applying argan oil to the hair are seen the first time. Creams with argan oil make it easier to comb wet or dry hair. If applied after drying the hair, it makes it shinier.

On the face and skin, results are quick. In the first application there is an improvement in skin hydration, which becomes more lush and beautiful. The anti-aging effect can take up to 30 days to manifest, depending on other skin care.

According to experts, argan oil works best on hair mixed with a concentration of 10% (or more) to conditioner and masks. The conditioner and mask function as a vehicle.

Combine argan oil with...
Anti-aging creams: Argan oil contributes to the penetration of the anti-aging creams' actives into the skin, enhancing its results. Ideally, the anti-aging cream contains oil in a concentration of 2% to 10%.

Hair conditioners and masks: Argan oil, combined with these products, prepared the hair for hair procedures such as straightening, for example. Conditioner or hair masks act as vehicles for the oil, helping its penetration into the hair.
