Artemisia vulgaris belongs to the genus Artemisia. Aromatic plant native to temperate climates in Europe, Asia and North Africa, it is dispersed throughout the world.

Known as common mugwort, sagebrush, mugwort, mugwort, wormwood, wormwood, Wormwood, grass queen, chamomile, or fireweed.

The species most used for medicinal purposes are artemisia annua, artemisia vulgaris and artemisia absinthium.

It has dark green leaves measuring  5 to 20 cm. Flowering occurs between July and September (small flowers, 5 mm long, yellow or dark red). It is a perennial herbaceous plant with woody roots, with a height between 1 and 2 meters.

 

Benefits of Mugwort

Mugwort has several medicinal effects and properties:

  • analgesic - some people use tea to treat fever,
  • antispasmodic,

  • soothing and relaxing - Combat stress and anxiety.
  • Digestive Mugwort is used to treat digestion problems such as loss of appetite, stomach pain, gallbladder disease and intestinal spasms.

  • In addition, some people use the tea to treat liver disease, depression, muscle pain, memory loss and worm infections.

It can be consumed in the form of an essential oil or tea.

Its essential oil is very rich: cineole and thujone, flavonoids, tannins, saponins, resins, artemisinin and bitter principles.

Artemisinin is being tested against malaria.

It should not be consumed raw as it is toxic in this way.

 

 

How to make mugwort tea
Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons of mugwort leaves
  • 1 liter of water

Way of doing
Boil the water and add the herb leaves. Simmer for ten minutes. Turn off the heat, set aside to cool, strain and drink 2-3 cups of tea a day.

 

Secundary effects
Mugwort should be consumed moderately and two to four weeks after harvesting.

If four or more weeks pass after collection, and/or in amounts greater than those recommended, it can cause serious side effects such as insomnia, vomiting, nausea, dizziness, hallucinations, restlessness and seizures.

Pregnant and lactating women should not use mugwort. The herb can cause miscarriage or newborn problems.
