Hyaluronic Acid

Hyaluronic Acid

Showing 1 to 4 of 4 (1 Pages)

In this category, you will find a selection of MipMed products that have hyaluronic acid as one of the main raw materials.

Using hyaluronic acid supplements or topical products can help people maintain a youthful appearance and fight many signs of aging.

As we age, your natural levels of hyaluronic acid decrease, so acid-containing skin products are an extra boost.

What is hyaluronic acid (HA)?

It is a natural glycosaminoglycan - carbohydrate - present in the body's connective tissue.

HA is the main constituent that gives structure to your skin, responsible for its hydrated and turgid appearance.

It plays a key role in wound healing, a capacity that decreases as we age, making us susceptible to sagging and expression wrinkles. It acts as an antioxidant to protect the skin from harmful molecules - free radicals.

It helps to hydrate the outer layers of your skin, improving your skin's appearance. Moisturized skin is radiant and younger looking. But hyaluronic acid does not permanently bypass time. Claiming it's "the key to the fountain of youth" is "marketing hype." Science has yet to find a single ingredient, molecule or product that can reverse or slow the aging process.

What are the benefits of hyaluronic acid?
The HA binds up to 1000 times its weight in water! It is a humectant keeping water molecules on the surface of the skin to keep it hydrated. The term transepidermal water loss, or TEWL, is the scientific term for measuring the amount of water evaporated from the skin. When a product prevents TEWL, it means it keeps the skin hydrated, ensuring that water does not escape from its surface. Hyaluronic acid does just that: it decreases the rate of evaporation of water.

Are there adverse effects in the use of hyaluronic acid?
It is recommended that the HA concentration be less than 2 percent. Why? A very low molecular weight of 5 kDA HA has the ability to penetrate the skin, meaning it can potentially carry other unwanted ingredients, chemicals and bacteria. Elevated HA levels can cause inflammatory skin diseases such as psoriasis.

How to introduce HA into the routine?
It depends on the products you normally use.

Moisturizers and serums are two of the most common forms of hyaluronic acid.

You can use moisturizing cream that contains hyaluronic acid. Ideally, you should apply/hydrate twice a day, always after cleaning, exfoliating or applying serums. But if you are using a hyaluronic acid serum, your routine will be a little different.

After cleansing, and with the skin still damp, press a few drops onto the face with the palms of your hands. Don't forget to apply a moisturizer immediately afterwards to seal in all that moisture.

Fortunately, hyaluronic acid works well with virtually any skin care product, including retinol, vitamin C, alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) and beta hydroxy acids (BHAs).

How often to use?
Follow product-specific instructions and start slowly. But you can use hyaluronic acid in the morning and in the evening.

When are the results due?
Result times may vary as products have different formulas.

Topical hyaluronic acid products produce temporary effects, so you'll notice fatter and more hydrated skin in just a few minutes.

But to reduce the appearance of fine lines and other signs of aging, you may have to wait a few months to see a difference.

The end result
To keep your skin looking and feeling, you need to hydrate it. And hyaluronic acid is one of the simplest ways to do just that.

Easy to use, no adverse effects and available in a variety of product formats: this really is a skin care ingredient that works for everyone.
