Lavender is a fragrant herb originally from Asia. According to history, it was initially baptized by the Greeks with the name “nardus”, in allusion to its origin linked to Naarda, a small town in Syria, near the region of the Euphrates River.

Its scientific name: Lavandula, comes from the Latin lavae, which means “to wash”, since the smell of lavender has been associated with cleaning since ancient times. The Romans used the flower to wash clothes and bathe, trying to give off its perfume. Its flower is found in shades of purple and lilac, being rich in calming and therapeutic properties, it has been used over the last centuries for healing purposes for diseases such as nervous system disorders, burns, insomnia, and various skin problems.

Lavender is also known as Lavender, but although they belong to the same genus of Lavandula plants, in the Lamiaceae family, they are botanically of different species and sub-species. Belonging to the group of Provençal Herbs, such as rosemary, sage, and fennel.

The fame of lavender quickly spread across Europe and the forerunner of the development and expansion of the art of perfumery and cosmetics.

Its benefits are so broad that, in aromatherapy, it is considered the basic essential oil for virtually all treatments. The aroma is specifically indicated to soothe the nervous system, acting on emotion and leaving people more serene.

Nowadays, Lavender or Lavender essential oil has anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and calming properties, and is often used to relieve burns, promote skin healing and as a forehead compress to relieve migraine. Lavender/Lavender infusion is excellent for calming the nerves and fighting insomnia.

Due to its properties, lavender is widely used in natural cosmetics in two forms: essential oil and fragrance.

Lavender oil is extracted from the flowering sums and leaves of the plant Lavandula angustifolia by steam drag, it has a fresh and smooth aroma.
